What
is a balloon race?
You
sell 2 part race labels which both have serial numbers
on. You sell the balloon to the purchaser, they fill in
their name and address on 1 part which you keep. The other
part of the race card is attached to the balloon. On this
part of the card is the serial number, the closing date
of the race and a place for the finder of the balloon
to insert his name and address. The finder then returns
it to the address stamped on the back. When the closing
date arrives a prize is awarded to the owner of the balloon
that has traveled the farthest and a smaller prize to
the person who finds the balloon and returns the label.
Will
I need permission to run a Balloon Race?
Yes
you will. You must obtain the relevant permission from
your local authority as Balloon Races are considered
to be lotteries. In addition to this you must also inform
any military authorities and civic air traffic controls
of the date and time of the intended release.
Does
the release of the balloons harm the environment?
There
is very little effect on the environment as both the
latex balloon and the race card are biodegradable. You
should never however release a foil balloon!
What
do I need then for a Balloon Race?
